The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced a last-minute reschedule of their meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC), originally set for today. The reason for the postponement is CETAG's prior commitment to attend a meeting with the Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD).¹
According to an official statement from CETAG, the NLC had invited them for a 10 am meeting today. However, CETAG's National Executive Officer (NEO) has written to the NLC, requesting a new date for the meeting.
This development comes amidst ongoing tensions between CETAG and the government over issues such as better working conditions and remuneration packages. CETAG has been on a nationwide strike since June 2024, affecting all 46 public colleges of education across the country.
The NLC had previously secured an interlocutory injunction to halt the strike, but CETAG continued, leading to a hearing where the Commission announced plans to sue the government to enforce the arbitral award in CETAG's favour.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen when the rescheduled meeting between CETAG and the NLC will take place.
